The Interesting Part: Yellow on a Screen Contains No Blue

Here is a fact most people never think about. Your display has only red, green and blue subpixels. When it shows pure yellow, the blue subpixels are switched off entirely. Pure Yellow means red at 255, green at 255, blue at zero.

Why that matters: the wavelengths your body clock responds to most, the blues around 460 to 480 nm, simply are not being produced by the pixels. A yellow screen gives you a bright, usable light with the most sleep relevant part of the spectrum removed at the source, not filtered afterward.

Why Your Eyes Cannot Tell Screen Yellow From Real Yellow

A small piece of science that explains how every display works. Real spectral yellow is light at around 580 nm. Your screen produces no 580 nm light at all when showing yellow. Instead it lights red and green together, and because your eye only has three color sensor types, the red plus green mixture triggers them in exactly the same ratio that true yellow would. Your brain cannot tell the difference.
